Gen Muhoozi Discusses Opportunities for Youth with Olympic Committee’s Blick

The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with William Blick, a member of the International Olympic Committee, at the SFC Headquarters in Entebbe.

They discussed opportunities for youth in sports and human capital development.

Mr Blick, who has been a member of the IOC since 2018, is only the second Ugandan, after Maj Gen Francis Nyangweso, to serve on the IOC.

The role of IOC members is primarily to promote the IOC’s vision of building a better world through sport. The IOC also places a strong emphasis on educating youth through sports. It oversees the world’s largest sporting event, the Olympic Games.

Gen Kainerugaba has consistently emphasised the role of sports in Uganda’s development.

Beyond advocacy, he has supported sports teams through financial commitments and morale-boosting initiatives on several occasions.

For example, in 2021, he covered all expenses for the Ugandan national basketball team participating in the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda. In 2019, he donated Shs100 million towards the construction of the Joshua Cheptegei Training Camp in Teryet Sub-county, Kapchorwa District.

Recently, in September, he met Mathias Kiwanuka, a former American professional football player who played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) and recently returned to Uganda to promote American football.

During the meeting, Gen Kainerugaba committed to supporting Kiwanuka’s project. Kiwanuka, the grandson of Uganda’s first Prime Minister, Benedicto Kiwanuka, won two Super Bowl championships with the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI.
